A couple years ago Hockey Canada in its infinite wisdom decided they want to great Rule 86. For many people this is simply a number, for others this is the infamous Checking to the Head. Everybody cried about this new rule and how taller players were being penalized for being taller. Well…how the times have changed? Can you believe that both the NHL and OHL are introducing rules to prohibit unessessary, violent, and intimidating contact to the head area. It seems that the NHL, OHL and Hockey Canada are comming together to make the rule standard for all levels. Checking to the Head in Hockey Canada can be assessed as a, Minor + Misconduct, Major + Game Misconduct, Match Penalt. Remember, Safety is more important than any game or play!
