Ontario Hockey League Approves the Niagra Ice Dogs

Wait… I thought there was an Ice Dogs in the Ontario Hockey League. They were playing last year, weren’t they? Don’t worry you’re not out of the “loop”. The Ontario Hockey League board of governors approved the sale and relocation of the Mississauga IceDogs to Niagra. As part of the deal the (Toronto) St. Micheal’s Majors will be moving to the Hershey Centre, the former home of the Mississauga IceDogs, they will now be known as the Mississauga St. Micheal’s Major. Their affiliation to the all boys private catholic school will remain. Their old arena will be home to their Tier II Junior A affiliate the St. Michael’s Buzzers.

It is rumoured that the Niagra IceDogs will be playing out of Jack Gatecliff arena, the current home of the St. Catherines Junior B Falcons who play in the Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League. Picture of the arena are provided below:

As a side note, the Greater Toronto Hockey League also had a Mississauga IceDogs in their organization, they will be reverting back to their previous name the Mississauga Reps. The new website for the Niagara IceDogs will be www.niagaraicedogs.net. It is also important to note that St. Catherines was home to an OHL Francise-the Black Hawks, however they moved to Niagara to become the Flyers, they moved once more to North Bay to become the Centennials,n then finally moving to Saginaw to become the Spirit, which currently still play in the OHL.
