Team Canada U18 off to Rocky Start

Team Canada’s U18 team is off to a rocky start. Today Team Canada lost to Sweden (3-2) in a shootout. We still managed to snag a point, however Sweden left the contest with 2. Canada opened the scoring at the 16:45 mark of the first period, with a goal from Kevin King(#16) assisted by Kelsey Tessier(#14) and Nazem Kadri(#21). In the second period Sweden responded with Mattias Tedenby(#21) scoring at the 10:19 mark. The goal was assisted by Dennis Bozic (#8) and Anton Myllari(#6). In the third period only 2:31 in, Phillipe Cornet(#23) his goal is assisted by Cody Hodgson(#9) and David Toews(#22). Sweden battles back scoring is the dying minute of the game to send it to overtime. The goal was scored by Mattias Tedenby(#21), his second of the game. Mattias Ekholm(#2) picks up the assist.

This sent the game into a shootout where Canada was unable to score on any of its attempts. Kyle Beach(21),Kelsey Tessier(#14), and Steven Stamkos(#19) were the shooters for Canada. Anton Lander(#16) was able to beat Canadian goaltender Peter Delmas(#30) to capture the extra point.

Canada’s next game is Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 9:30 EST against Switzerland, which also lost their first game in the tournament to the Czech Republic (2-1).
